It's apparently only an issue on 2.6.20+.
The ipssend I have (latest) returns:
# ipssend getconfig 1

Found 0 IBM ServeRAID controller(s).
Command aborted.
Verify that the drivers and hardware are properly installed.

Kernel module CONFIG_SCSI_IPS is compiled in. RAID functions fine, just no command-line monitoring. 32-bit OS on an IBM x330.

Works flawlessly! You can access it from the gui if you move the gui window out of the way and right click and open a terminal window. Once booted from the CD, the executable is in /usr/RaidMan/flash/

the ipssend I'm running here works perfectly with a 2.6 kernel (using the ips kernel module to access the raid array).

Is it possible that your ipssend is outdated? Or of the wrong architecture (64bit vs. 32bit)?

ipssend (v771) apparently does NOT work on 2.6.x kernels (at least not on my Debian setup). It would be great to find ANY non GUI cmd line utils that might monitor ServeRAID status.

The ipssend utility is alive and well for Linux and is available on the ServeRAID Support CD.

CLI (command line) isn't as hard as many claim.
In the old days of computing completely non-technical users managed to use CLI tools without any major problems.

An experienced CLI user will be generally much faster than an experienced GUI user.
