Your going round-and-round with iTunes was not necessary. It will indeed pick up on changes made to your Music folder, either moving or renaming it. This is behavior inherited from the classic Mac OS, as its apps could always find folders they needed, no matter what you did to them (short of moving them to the Trash). You should have went into the prefs and chose your new folder, or held down the Option key as advised above.

[...] But now that 128GB SSD is available in MacBook Pro too, this isn’t a MacBook Air advantage any more. In fact, the prices have dropped enough that SSDs are easily found on the open market. Someone even rigged one up in a Mac Pro. [...]

SSD are nice, but they do have their drawbacks such as heat. My 2008 MBP has a Patriot 256 SSD and it runs hot. Also, that Patriot drive would not work in my 2009 Mini, but a OCZ 120 works fine. If you do lots of writes, then write to a regular HD. I have a NAS that stores my writes.

When you launch iTunes, press Opt.. And that'll bring you a dialog asking you to locate your Music library... So you don't need this symlink business, just tell itunes where your music library is, and unless you change it at a later time from prefs or by pressing Opt again when launching, it'll use the one you selected (on your external drive, for example)...

I bought a pair of 160GB Intel X25-M drives. Unfortunately, digitec does not allow deeplinking (due to posts and frames all over the place), but if you want to order them click through Storage > Hard drives, select SSD and Intel.

The official Intel product page ist here:

Nice, nice... makes me want to switch to SSDs... could you tell me the exact model you bought? Or maybe a link to the product page.

Thanks
